Wolf Point Optimists Present Donated Items To Local Schools

The campaign for school supplies by the Optimist Club of Wolf Point was very successful this summer.
Volunteers delivered their boxes of items such as pencils, crayons and notebooks to the school district on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
“It’s always helpful because there are a lot of families that don’t have the material means to purchase these things,” Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said.
This marked the second year of the “Fill A Box” campaign by the Optimist Club of Wolf Point. Similar clubs in larger cities conduct a “Fill A Bus” campaign, but local members felt filling the back of a pickup was more realistic than an entire bus in Wolf Point.
Optimist members said that this year’s total was 15 boxes of donations. The group plans to hold the campaign again prior to next school year.
Donated items included paper, pencils, notebooks, pens and crayons.
“It gives the kids what they need to perform,” Perkins said. “It’s appreciated in a lot of ways.”
Many of the materials were collected when the Optimists held “Fill A Box,” annual community yard and ice cream social on Aug. 16.
