Camp Takes Place In Wolf Point’s New Wrestling Room


Dustyn Azure, head coach for Eastern Oregon University’s wrestling program, worked with some enthusiastic young athletes during a two-day camp in Wolf Point on Friday and Saturday.
Azure is a native of Poplar and graduate of Wolf Point High School. While in high school, he placed sixth at state as a sophomore, fourth as a junior and won the state title as a senior. He went on to earn NAIA national honors at Montana State University- Northern, “It’s always good to come back and see friends and family here,” Azure said.
Something that Azure hasn’t seen before is Wolf Point High School’s new wrestling room.
“This is awesome,” Azure said of the wrestling room. “I wish we had a wrestling room like this when I was growing up.”
Azure was able to celebrate accomplishments this year as the 2004 wrestling team was inducted into the Montana State University - Northern’s hall of fame and he was inducted into the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame.
“I felt very honored,” Azure said of the recognition.
Eastern Oregon University is coming off of a successful wrestling season. The team accounted for the highest grade point average in the nation for wrestling programs. The team’s overall grade point average was 3.68.
“Academics is something that we stress,” Azure said. “It’s coaching an all-around wrestler to excel as a person and be the best they can be for not just wrestling but everything.”
Earlier in the week, Azure served as a guest speaker at the Montana Coaches Association’s annual meeting held in Great Falls.
He is looking forward to next season at Eastern Oregon. The program features Montana wrestlers from Huntley Project and Ronan.
“Last year, we had a young team. I’m excited to work and develop them into a team,” Azure said.
