Lustre News
School starts for Lustre Grade School students on Wednesday, Aug. 18. Our teachers for the 2025-2026 school year are Maryke Nell (kindergarten to second grade), Edmond Malihan (grades 3-4), Legia Earley (grades 5-6), Luanne Mullet (grades 7-8). Sarel Matthyser and Ligia Earley will be leading robotics.
Principal Jeanne Matthyser says, “A new music teacher from the Philippines, Mr. Jovison Ayuno, will be joining the Lustre community. We are very excited to welcome Mr. Ayuno and his wife. They will be here within the next couple weeks. We wish our eighth-grade graduates, Samantha Neufeld, Tessa Olfert and Grace Byers, the best as they embark on their new chapter as high school students.”
She continued, “We are very excited to welcome a handful of new students to our LGS family this year. LGS is very excited to get this brand new school year started. We have missed our kiddos and look forward to continuing seeing every single student grow and develop into the amazing humans they will be one day. Our priority, here at LGS, is the performance and achievement of all students, regardless of their ability; the well-being of all students and staff; and doing all this while being rooted in our core values of love, learn, give, grow, serve, succeed. LGS — We are Stronger Together!”
We have had some nice rains the end of July. Beginning Saturday evening until Wednesday, July 23, there has been a total of one and three quarters inches which has soaked in well and will help fill out the grain. The hay crop is poor this year. Pea and lentil harvest was beginning last week before the rains.
LCHS had Clean Up Day on Aug. 4. Board member Justin Klatt was in charge as the community came together to prepare the school and dormitory for the new year.
