Area Gymnasts Place At State Meet

The Montana state gymnastics meet was held in Bozeman on March 21-23. EMG had 13 event championships and three all-around championships.

In bronze, River Darby placed first on vault, balance beam and floor in her age group, while Abby Garoutte and Emmalyn Vallejo both won vault in their age groups.

Silver gymnast Brooklynn Boren tied for first on floor, while gold gymnasts Aubrey Ziegler (uneven bars and balance beam), Peyton Cool (vault) and Kendra Linder (vault, uneven bars, balance beam and tie on floor) all secured event championships in their age groups.

Linder, Cool and River Darby also placed first allaround in their respective age groups.

Several gymnasts had strong routines that led to runners-up placings. Frankie Darby (floor) and Cora Hove (balance beam) each placed second in their age groups in the silver level.

In gold, Ila Lehner (floor), Ziegler (vault), Ava Hove (floor) and Justine Massar (vault and balance beam) all placed second on events. Massar was also second allaround in her age group.

Silver and gold gymnasts that scored and placed well at the state meet qualified to attend the Xcel Silver Invitational and Xcel Regionals in Salem, Ore., on April 2527. Competing against some very strong competition with gymnasts from Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska, Idaho and Montana, EMG came home with some high placings.

Frankie Darby, after having an off-meet at state, showed her resilience and placed first in her age group at the Silver Invitational on balance beam. She was also tied for second on floor and second all-around.

In the gold level, Ziegler finished her strong placing year by placing first on uneven bars, as well as second on balance beam and allaround.

Lehner performed a strong balance beam routine to tie for first place, and finished second in the all-around in her age group.

Linder completed her gymnastics career in the strongest possible way with first places on uneven bars and all-around, and tied for second on vault.
