Golfers Qualify For State


Poplar’s boys’ team and Wolf Point’s Maia Kent qualified for the state golf tournament during the Northern B divisional tournament held in Shelby on Tuesday, May 6.
The Indians finished in fourth place to advance to the state tournament. The top three boys’ teams were Malta, Choteau and Shelby.
Poplar’s Kaniel Ricker shot a 79 to take third place at the meet. Choteau’s Kellen Meyer was the meet’s medalist with a 75. Malta’s Regan Stuart placed second with a 77.
Poplar’s Lukas Young tied for 16th place with a 90. Navarjo Escarcega tied for 24th at 96.
Blake Lambert shot a 106 for 40th place. Gavyn Grainger took 45th at 114.
Scores for Wolf Point’s boys were Chaz Kegley with a 127 for 54th place and Conway Turcotte with a 138 for 58th place.
Wolf Point’s eighth-grader Maia Kent qualified for the state meet by shooting a 104 for 10th place. The top 15 golfers advance to the state meet.
Malta’s Brittney Sorlie won medalist honors with an 86.
Wolf Point’s McKinlee Paulson tied for 27th place at 125.
Poplar’s Angelina Escarcega tied for 16th at 113. Masina Youpee was 20th at 119. Frankie Crawford took 32nd at 130. Bree Brown was 38th at 166.
The state meet ends Wednesday, May 14, in Shelby.
