Wolves Suffer Tough Night Against Glasgow Team
It was one of those nights when few things went right for Wolf Point’s football team. The Wolves struggled with turnovers and lost at home to rival Glasgow, 50-6, on Friday, Oct. 2.
The first break of the game for Glasgow came when Cody Kuka intercepted a pass and returned the ball to the Wolf Point 33. After driving to the 21, the Scotties scored on a slant pass play from Kuka to Tay Morehouse. Jack Morehouse kicked the conversion for a 7-0 margin with 9:39 left in the opening quarter.
On Wolf Point’s next play from scrimmage, Glasgow’s Tripp Mavity recovered a fumble at the Wolf Point 32. The Scotties reached the end zone on a 22-yard throw from Kuka to a wide-open Tayven Bietz with 7:52 remaining in the first period.
After a short punt by the Wolves, Glasgow marched 32 yards on five plays for its third touchdown. Kuka kept the ball for a 16-yard quarterback run with 3:49 on the clock. J. Morehouse’s kick put the score at 21-0.
Wolf Point’s offensive attack got going on its next possession as runs by Jesse Reed and a quick pass from Reed Garfield to Prestyn Klatt picked up a first down near midfield. The threat ended on an interception by Owen Hopstad.
Wolf Point’s defense appeared to stop Glasgow on the Scotties’ next possession, but a questionable penalty against the Wolves after a punt returned the ball to Glasgow. The Scotties went on to score on a 29-yard toss from Kuka to tight end Cade Hudyma for a 27-0 margin with 11:53 left in the half.
The Scotties were soon in scoring position again when a poor snap exchange on a punt gave Glasgow the ball at the Wolf Point eight. Wolf Point’s defense stood tough, and Glasgow settled for a 27-yard field goal by J. Morehouse to put the margin at 30-0.
Late in the half, the Wolves drove into Glasgow territory on passes from Tanner MacDonald to Chris Traeholt and Jayden Dominique, but the threat ended when Kuka came up with another interception.
A threat by Glasgow inside Wolf Point territory during the last minute of the half was stopped when Klatt intercepted a pass.
The Scotties were able to increase their lead to 36-0 on a screen pass from Kuka to Reece Martin that covered 53 yards early in the third quarter.
After recovering a fumble, the Scotties scored on a two-yard run by Tyrus Hartwell. A kick by J. Morehouse made the score 43-0 with 6:40 left in the third quarter.
Wolf Point then put together an 86-yard drive that featured the running of Reed and fine blocking by the Wolves’ offensive line. A pass from Mac-Donald to Klatt resulted in a 40-yard gain to the Glasgow 13. Reed then rushed for a first down to the three. On fourth down at the one, Reed scored with 7:20 remaining in the game.
Glasgow’s final touchdown came on a 57-yard dash by Hartwell with 5:20 remaining.
The Wolves will host Cut Bank on Friday, Oct. 9, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
