Wolves Earn League Win Over Conrad

The Wolf Point Wolves controlled most of the game and captured a 26-14 football conference victory in Conrad on Friday, Sept. 25.

Ahead by a 20-14 margin entering the fourth quarter, the Wolves took over at the Conrad 42 after an 18-yard punt return by Jesse Reed with about seven minutes left in the contest. Two runs by Reed, a senior, produced a first down at the Cowboy 17.

On third down from the 11, quarterback Reed Garfield rolled out and found Jayden Charette in the end zone for a touchdown to put the Wolves up 26-14 with 4:31 remaining.

After Wolf Point’s defense stopped the Cowboys, the Wolves took up a good amount of time with a drive inside Conrad’s territory. The running of Reed picked up a first down at the 23. Conrad gained a first down on its final drive, but sacks by Reed ended the threat.

The Wolves opened the game on a bad note when Conrad grabbed a fumbled kickoff and went into the end zone for a quick 7-0 advantage.

Wolf Point responded with a nice drive inside Conrad territory. The Wolves reached the end zone on a 15-yard pass from Garfield to Charette with 8:01 left in the period. Reed ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-7 lead.

After a sack by Zandon Calder ended a possession for the Cowboys, the Wolves took over at the Cowboy 22. A throw from Garfield to Chasen Welch picked up 18 yards for a first down at the four.

On second down from the eight, Reed scored to put Wolf Point ahead 14-7 with 7:58 remaining in the half.

Wolf Point’s third touchdown of the half came on a 29-yard dash by Reed with 2:30 on the clock for a 20-7 half-time advantage.

Conrad pulled to 20-14 on a 15-yard pass play with 5:30 remaining in the third quarter.

Reed finished with 225 yards rushing on 42 carries.

Garfield completed nine of 22 passes for 136 yards.

Charette caught three passes for a total of 64 yards. Welch and Klatt each had two catches Welch led the Wolves with seven solo tackles.

Evan Kawasaki and Reed had six solo tackles each. Calder finished with seven total tackles.

Reed accounted for two sacks.

The Wolves, 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play, host Glasgow on Friday, Oct. 2.
