Cowboys Outlast Forsyth For Road Victory
The Culbertson Cowboys delivered big plays on both sides of the ball Saturday, forcing five turnovers and defeating the Forsyth Doggies 47-38 in a hardfought road contest.
Quarterback Brooks Solem led the Cowboys’ oense, accounting for eight touchdowns. Solem carried the ball 35 times for 221 yards and four touchdowns while completing 11 of 15 passes for 193 yards and four more scores. He threw one interception.
Cord Snyder caught five passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns, while Mauricio Mena provided a downfield threat with three receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. Glenn Sager added a 10-yard touchdown reception.
Culbertson’s defense helped turn the game in the Cowboys’ favor by creating five turnovers.
Head coach Brian Manning praised his team for responding to the game’s momentum swings and making important plays when they were needed most.
“Overall, it was a gritty performance by the boys,” Manning said. “Forsyth is a very talented team, and we made some really big plays when we needed them most.”
Manning said the Cowboys showed resilience throughout the contest and turned in an impressive performance on oense, defense and special teams.
“I’m very proud of the way the boys showed resiliency with the ups and downs of the game,” he said. “But we definitely have things to work on moving forward so we can continue getting better and become an even more refined team.”
The victory improved Culbertson’s record to 2-0. The Cowboys will remain on the road when they face the Poplar Indians on Friday, Sept. 18. Poplar enters the matchup with a 1-1 record following a 72-22 victory over Fairview.
