Culbertson Team Claims Tourney Title

The Culbertson Cubs won the eight-team Big Muddy League softball tournament held in Plentywood last week.

The Cubs edged Wolf Point, 4-2, in the title game.

The contest was even at 1-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Culbertson’s Finley Nickolo then hit a double with the bases loaded for a 4-1 advantage.

Culbertson held Wolf Point in the last inning for the victory. Rylee Lee caught a pop fly in left field to end the game.

“I’m just so proud of these girls,” Coach Holly Nickolo said. “They worke so hard for it to come back and win was huge.”

Culbertson defeated Wolf Point #2, Bainville and Scobey during the its first three games of the tournament.

After suering a loss against Wolf Point #1 on Wednesday, the Cubs bounced back on Thursday.
