Roosevelt County residents gathered throughout May to celebrate Older Americans Month with a variety of informative and engaging activities designed to promote healthy living, lifelong learning, and community involvement for adults age 60 and older.
The month-long celebration featured presentations from local experts on topics including scam prevention, fraud awareness and safety. Mike Leinen from Independence Bank provided valuable guidance on protecting personal finances, while Camarillo Burshia from the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department shared important safety information to help older adults stay prepared and informed.
Participants also enjoyed educational sessions from Roosevelt County Health Department staff on strengthening families and flower planting, and the importance of checking your blood pressure regularly. Roxann Smith from Fort Peck Community College presented on the buffalo restoration projects. Greg Hunter of Nemont rounded out the educational offerings with additional information on recognizing and avoiding scams and fraud.
Wellness remained a key focus throughout the month. Chair yoga with Keri Sansaver encouraged participants to stay active, while video-led exercise classes were offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to promote regular physical activity and healthy aging.
Community partners also contributed to the celebration by providing financial education handouts through the Wolf Point Federal Credit Union, a swag table donated by Action for Eastern Montana, and birthday flowers donated by Big Sky Botanical Floral.
In Culbertson, Dr. Lynn Nyquist presented on shingles and vaccines and shared a slideshow showcasing her tour of Egypt.
The Older Americans Month lineup reflected a commitment to supporting local seniors through education, fitness, and meaningful community engagement. Roosevelt County Aging Services expresses appreciation to all presenters, partners, and participants who helped make the month’s activities both informative and enjoyable.
