Poplar’s girls’ basketball team’s exciting run in the Northern B divisional tournament came to an end with a 43-26 loss against Glasgow in a challenge game held in Wolf Point on Monday night.

The Indians held a 16-14 half-time advantage and were able to increase the margin to 21-16 on a fast-break basket by Braelyn Nordwick and a three-point play by Frankie Gourneau early in the third quarter.

After Glasgow’s Emma Mandeville connected on a 14-footer, a drive by Nordwick put Poplar ahead 23-18 with 4:23 remaining in the period.

The Scotties, however, then struck for seven straight points on a 16-footer by Mandeville, three free throws by Joely Chappell and a basket off a rebound by Mayzie Yoakam.

A pair of free throws by F. Gourneau pulled the Indians even at 25-25 to end the quarter.

The Scotties went ahead to stay when five points by Chappel and an inside shot by Paityn Britzman produced a 32-25 margin to start the fourth quarter.

After a free throw by Nordwick at the 6:13 mark, Glasgow accounted for the game’s final 11 points.

Nordwick led the Indians with 11 points while F. Gourneau added nine points. Cammie Martell and Saydee Archambault scored three points each.

Leading the Scotties were Chappell with 16 and Mandeville with 10 points.
