Brockton Girls Lose At Tourney
Brockton’s girls’ basketball team suffered a 54-41 loss against Jordan in the opening round of the Eastern C divisional tournament in Miles City on Wednesday, March 4.
After trailing by a 13-11 margin at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors got off to a good start in the second period as three-pointers by Tamryn Bauer and Quintana Young produced a 17-13 lead.
Jordan then tallied the game’s next 10 points to move ahead 23-17.
After Brockton’s Azalea Clampitt hit a three-pointer, the Mustangs struck for the last seven points of the half including a three-pointer by Jada McWilliams for a 30-20 half-time advantage.
Jordan increased its lead to 13 points in the third quarter, but the Warriors fought back to 37-28 on a 17-footer by Bauer and a steal and layup by Young.
Bauer scored the final three points of the quarter to cut the gap to 39-31.
A pair of three-point shots by McWilliams lifted the Mustangs to a 52-35 lead with 2:27 left in the game.
Brockton’s top scorers were Bauer with 17 and Young with 10 points.
Also scoring were Marlene Fish with nine, A. Clampitt with three and Claire Clampitt with two points.
Fish grabbed eight rebounds in the contest.
Leading Jordan’s attack were Annie Murnion with 21, McWilliams with 14 and Emmersyn Nelson with 12 points.
In a nail-biting game, Terry outlasted Brockton’s girls’ basketball team, 50-45, at the Eastern C divisional tournament on Thursday, March 5.
The scoring of Quintana Young and Tamryn Bauer led the Warriors to a 13-3 lead in the first quarter.
A hoop by Taylor Cummins off a pass from Young increased the margin to 21-8 during the second quarter. Terry then scored five straight points. A drive by Bauer put Brockton ahead 2518 at the half.
The Terriers, however, opened the second half with six straight points to pull to 25-24. After Young connected on a 16-footer and Bauer scored on a fast break, Terry’s Ashley Eaton hit a three-pointer to close the margin to 29-27.
The scoring of Young kept the Warriors ahead until a three-pointer by Kennedi Larsen put Terry ahead 35-34 to end the third quarter.
After Terry increased its advantage to 42-36, Brockton responded with a drive by Bauer and a 14-footer by Cummins to close the margin to 42-40 with 3:58 remaining.
A three-pointer by Larsen and a three-point play by Eaton put Terry up, 48-42, with 2:41 left.
The Warriors came as close as 50-45, but Terry held on for the loser-out victory.
Top scorers for Brockton were Young with 18 and Bauer with 13 points. Also scoring were Fish with six, Cummins with four and Claire Clampitt with four.
