Bainville’s girls’ basketball team held Brockton to four points in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and downed the Warriors, 5337, in the semi-final round on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Ahead by a 39-33 margin at the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs struck for the first six points of the final period on a basket off a rebound by Lila Butikofer, a coast-tocoast drive by Hailey Berwick and two free throws by Addison Hansen.

After Brockton’s Marlene Fish hit two free throws, the Bulldogs scored again on a basket by Berwick off a pass from Chandi Johnson.

A hoop by Johnson, a pull-up jumper by Berwick and a basket by Hansen increased the margin to 53-36 with under three minutes to play.

Bainville’s top scorers were Berwick with 18, Hansen with 13 and Jodi Albus with 10. Also scoring were Butikofer with eight and Johnson with four.

Leading Brockton were Quintana Young with 15 and Tamryn Bauer with 14 points.

The second-seeded Bulldogs opened the game with the first 14 points as the scoring of Hansen and Berwick led the way.

Three free throws by Brockton’s Young closed the margin to 19-7 at the end of the period.

Young got hot from threepoint range in the second period as the junior connected on three long shots to pull the Warriors to 26-19.

The Warriors counted on the scoring of Bauer late in the half and trailed by only a 33-24 half-time margin.

A pair of free throws by Bauer and a three-point play by Young brought Brockton to 33-29 early in the third quarter. Bainville fought back with the next four points on baskets by Albus and Johnson. The Bulldogs went on to lead 39-33 at the end of the third quarter.
