Lustre Girls Take Frazer, 76-37, In League Play
After a close first quarter, Lustre’s girls’ basketball team posted a 76-37 win in Frazer on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The visiting Lions were ahead by only a 35-28 margin with more than three minutes left in the half when they struck for nine straight points. Leading the attack were Sidney Klatt with a three-pointer, Lauryn Holzrichter with a three-pointer, Lauren Fast with a 12-footer and Kencia Brown with a free throw.
Frazer’s BriAnna Beston scored at the 1:26 mark to cut the margin to 44-30, but the Lions accounted for the last eight points of the half on three baskets by K. Brown and a shot by Fast for a 52-30 half-time advantage.
After K. Brown and Beston exchanged hoops to open the third quarter, Lustre exploded for 10 straight points on two hoops by Samantha Neufeld, a 16-footer by Sidney Klatt, a 14-footer by Hannah Brown and a basket off a rebound by Holzrichter.
The Lions later increased the gap to 71-34 on a pair of baskets by H. Brown and a three-pointer by Holzrichter.
Lustre held a 76-37 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Top scorers for Lustre were K. Brown with 22, Holzrichter with 19 and Fast with 10 points.
Also scoring were Harlo Reddig with nine, Klatt with eight, H. Brown with eight, Neufeld with six and Ava Holzrichter with two.
Leading the Bearcubs were Beston with 14, Bethany Hotomanie with 11, Elli Mail with nine and Isabelle Fourstar with eight points. Aubrey Mail added three points.
The hot shooting of E. Mail and Hotomanie led the Bearcubs to an early 10-4 lead.
After a three-pointer by E. Mail put Frazer up 15-11, the Lions tallied the last seven points of the period on a 15-footer by Fast, a layup by K. Brown and a three-pointer by Klatt for an 18-15 lead.
Holzrichter was accurate from three-point range during the second quarter, but Frazer kept the heat on as Beston and E. Mail also connected on three-point shots. A long shot by E. Mail pulled the Bearcubs to 35-28 with 3:23 left in the half.
