Lady Wolves Defeated By Malta, 61-37
Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team put together an impressive first quarter but lost to Malta by a 61-37 margin at home on Saturday, Feb. 14.
The Wolves opened the District 2B contest by earning an 11-4 advantage. Steals and drives by Maci Fourstar and Adalynn Smith gave the Wolves a good start.
Wolf Point then scored on a three-pointer by Amya Martinez, an inside shot by Marley Moran and two free throws by Mattie Azure for an 11-4 lead.
Malta rallied with the next eight points, including four by Denvyr Tuss, to grab a 1211 lead. A drive by Fourstar ended the quarter with the Wolves ahead 13-12.
The M-ettes, however, opened the second quarter with 10 of the first 12 points.
After a free throw by Fourstar, Malta went on to take a 27-16 half-time advantage.
Malta increased its lead to 40-18 in the third quarter until the Wolves scored on drives by Cadence Bouldin and Fourstar. The M-ettes held a 49-22 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Highlights for the Wolves in the fourth period were three-pointers by Harper Weeks, Fourstar, Martinez and Azure.
Fourstar led the Wolves with 12 points. Also scoring were Martinez with six, Azure with five, Weeks with three, Jorilynn Black Eagle with two, Bouldin with two, Marley Moran with two and Smith with two.
Leading Malta were Tuss with 17 and Neva Jacobson with 16 points.
