Wolf Point Boys Down Fairview Team, 48-35
Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad took control in the second quarter to knock off Fairview, 48-35, in District 2B action on Friday, Jan. 23.
After the first half ended in a 23-23 deadlock, the Wolves delighted the hometown fans with the first five points of the third quarter on two inside baskets by 6-5 junior Zandon Calder and a free throw by Richard Campbell.
Fairview closed the gap to 26-23 on a basket by Ryan Lustig, but the Wolves responded with a drive by Calder and a basket by Brady Four Bear after a steal by Sean Hamilton.
Ahead by a 32-27 margin, Wolf Point ended the quarter on two baskets by Calder including one off an excellent pass from Jett Azure.
Wolf Point opened the fourth period with the first seven points including two hoops by Calder. Other points came on a basket by Roper Flaten off an assist from Calder and a free throw by Stone Lilley.
A drive by Kayden Charette put the Wolves up by a 45-32 margin with less than two minutes to play.
Calder scored 21 points to lead the Wolves. Also scoring were Hamilton with eight, Charette with six, Flaten with four, Campbell with three, Andrew Williamson with three, Four Bear with two, Azure with two and Lilley with one.
Leading Fairview were Keegan Skogas with 10 and Troy Karst with seven.
The Wolves opened the game by taking an 8-1 lead on two baskets by Calder and hoops by Flaten and Azure.
A three-point shot by Brayden Renville and a threepoint play by Karst helped the Warriors battle back and take a 15-11 lead at the end of the period. A pair of three-point shots by Hamilton helped the Wolves regain the lead in the second quarter. The half ended in a 21-21 deadlock.
