Poplar Boys Outscore Glasgow, 71-67, To Open League Play

Poplar’s boys’ basketball team opened conference action with an impressive home victory over Glasgow, 71-67, on Thursday, Dec. 18.

Glasgow led by a 50-48 margin after three quarters of play and increased the gap to 53-48 early in the final period.

The Indians, however, didn’t back down as an inside shot by Chance Pribbernow and a drive by Ryder Olson pulled Poplar to one point.

The Scotties stayed ahead until Dane Moran connected on a three-pointer from way out for a 57-57 deadlock. Olson followed with another three-pointer to put the Indians ahead 60-57.

After Glasgow’s Cade Hudyma fired in a three-pointer, Poplar ran off the next seven points on a three-pointer by AJ Youngman, two free throws by Chasen Pribbernow and a layup after a steal by Olson for a 67-60 lead with just over three minutes remaining.

Glasgow battled back to 67-66 on points by Hudyma and Grady Nielsen, but Olson then hit a three-pointer for a 70-66 advantage.

The Scotties got a point closer on a free throw by Nielsen, but Moran put the Indians ahead, 71-67, with a free toss with 20 seconds left. Glasgow then missed on two shot attempts.

Leading Poplar’s scoring attack were Olson with 27, Chasen Pribbernow with 18 and Moran with 13 points.

Also scoring for the Indians were Chance Pribbernow with eight, Youngman with three and Colton Dupree with two points.

Glasgow’s top scorers were Cade Hudyma with 23, Nielsen with 14, Colt Hudyma with 11 and Gage Waarvik with 11.

The Indians led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter and increased the margin to 30-19 early in the second period on a three-pointer by Chasen Pribbernow and a drive by Moran. Glasgow fought back to take a 35-34 lead at the half.
