Lady Wolves Split Games In Lockwood

Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad grabbed the lead to start the third quarter and scored a 55-46 victory over St. Labre at the Class B Tipoff Tournament in Lockwood on Friday, Dec. 12.

Down by a 26-24 half-time margin, the Wolves opened the second half with nine straight points on a pair of baskets by Sophie Ricker, a turnaround shot by Ma’Kenzie Jackson and a three-pointer by Harper Weeks for a 3326 lead.

After St. Labre battled back to 34-29, the Wolves answered with two free throws by Amya Martinez and a steal and drive by Mattie Azure.

St. Labre kept the pressure to put the score at 39-34 at the end of the third quarter and 39-36 to open the fourth period.

The Wolves stepped up to take control on a basket off a rebound by Marley Moran and four straight points by Cadence Boudin.

St. Labre trailed by only a five-point margin in the last two minutes, but a basket by Jackson off an assist from Azure and a pair of free throws by Azure put the gap at 53-44 with only 43 seconds remaining.

Jackson led the Wolves with 12 points. Weeks and Boudin added nine points each.

Also scoring were Ricker with eight, Addy Smith with seven, Azure with seven, Marley Moran with two and Martinez with two.

The Wolves trailed early in the game, but the scoring of Weeks and Smith led the way to a 16-12 advantage at the end of the period.

A basket by Azure put Wolf Point ahead 24-22 in the second quarter before St. Labre tallied the last six points of the half.

Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team lost to powerhouse Huntley Project, 64-24, during the tournament in Lockwood on Saturday, Dec. 13.

After falling behind by an early 5-0 margin, Wolf Point pulled even on a three-pointer by Ricker and an inside basket by Smith off a pass from Jackson.

The Red Devils accounted for the last eight points of the period for a 13-5 advantage.

Huntley Project increased the gap to 19-5 early in the second period. The Wolves tried to keep pace on free throws by Jackson and Boudin, but Huntley Project led 30-7 at intermission.

The Red Devils increased their lead to 47-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Ahead by a 49-19 margin, Huntley Project struck for 10 straight points to take a 59-19 lead during the fourth quarter.

The Wolves will start league play with a game at Fairview on Friday, Dec. 19, and then have their home opener against Glasgow on Saturday, Dec. 20.
