Wolves Come Up Short At District Tournament
The Wolf Point Wolves had their chances but lost to Harlem in four sets during firstround action at the District 2B volleyball tournament in Wolf Point on Thursday, Oct. 30. The Wolves fell short by a 25-17, 23-25, 24-26, 12-25, final.
In the first set, the Wolves led by a 16-12 margin and increased the gap on a kill by Lauren Rodenberg and an ace by Cali Gorder.
Kills by Ma’Kenzie Jackson and Rodenberg put the margin at 21-13. After the Wildcats scored on an ace by Kashlyn Speak Thunder and a kill by Natalie Richman, the Wolves responded with the next three points including two kills by Anna Matejovsky.
Ahead by a 24-17 score, the Wolves ended the set on another kill by Matejovsky.
The Wolves pulled to a 1919 deadlock in the third set on a pair of kills by Jackson. After Harlem moved ahead 22-20, Wolf Point struck for the next three points including a block and kill by Rodenberg for a 23-22 lead. Harlem then accounted for the last three points on kills by Marlee Brown and Speak Thunder.
The third set was another back-and-forth affair, but the Wildcats were able to grab an 18-15 advantage. The serving of Matejovsky and Jackson led Wolf Point to a 21-19 lead.
After a kill by Jackson increased Wolf Point’s lead to 23-20, the Wildcats scored on an ace by Kehtsin Stiffarm. Rodenberg then accounted for a kill to put the Wolves ahead 24-22.
Harlem gained the victory with the final four points including a kill and block by Speak Thunder.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set, but the Wolves battled back to 9-7. Kills by Jackson and Rodenberg kept Wolf Point close until five straight points put Harlem up 22-11. Harlem took the fourth set 25-12 as an ace by Speak Thunder and a kill by Ali Doyle ended the match.
