Poplar Loses Match Against Glasgow
The Poplar Indians struggled early and lost against Glasgow in first-round play at the District 2B volleyball tournament in Wolf Point on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Glasgow earned a 25-9, 2511, 28-26, victory.
The Scotties jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set on the serving of Addison Jones along with the net play of Ava Runner and Kolbi Ross.
After the Indians cut the margin to 9-3 on kills by Braelyn Nordwick, the Scotties were able to increase the gap to 17-7 with kills by Joely Chappell and Halle Hunter leading the way.
A kill by Poplar’s MaKenzie Crawford ended Glasgow’s run. The Scotties finished the first game on a kill by Runner.
Down by a 10-7 margin in the second set, the Indians battled back to 10-10 on a kill and block by Nordwick. With the Indians trailing by just a 14-11 margin, Glasgow scored the final 11 points of the second set as the serving of Jones highlighted action.
Poplar played its best during the third set. Kills by Nordwick and an ace by Jayda Falcon gave the Indians a 16-14 advantage.
The Indians stayed close at 20-18 on kills by Nordwick and Carsyn FourBear, but the Scotties moved ahead by a 24-18 margin.
After a play by Falcon was good for a point, the Indians rallied on the serving of Nordwick. A kill by Ashlyn Bull-Chief put Poplar ahead 25-24.
With the score at 25-25, Poplar went ahead on a back-row kill by Nordwick. Glasgow, however, tallied the last three points.
