Wolves Knock Off Plentywood
The Wolf Point Wolves got ready for the district tournament with a victory over league opponent Plentywood on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Wolves scored a 26-24, 17-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10 win.
The district tournament starts Thursday, Oct. 30, in Wolf Point with the top four teams advancing to the divisional tourney. Wolf Point trailed by a 24-21 margin in the first set at Plentywood before the serving of Maia Kent led the Wolves to the victory. Kent served an ace on the final point for the 26-24 final.
After dropping the second set, the Wolves gained a 2013 lead in the third set on an ace by Marley Moran, a kill by McKinlee Paulson and an ace by Adalynn Smith. Anna Matejovsky scored a kill to put the margin at 21-15. A kill and ace by Paulson were good for a 23-16 advantage.
Plentywood battled back to 24-20 until a kill by Ma’Kenzie Jackson ended the third set.
In the fifth set, the Wolves tied the score, 6-6, on a tip by Moran. The serving of Smith and net play of Lauren Rodenberg led the way to a 14-7 lead.
Kills by Keira Kelm pulled the Wildcats to 14-10. The Wolves earned the final point on a spike by Rodenberg.
The Wolves will open the District 2B volleyball tournament against Harlem at noon on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Other first-round matches are Malta facing Plentywood at 1:45 p.m., and Poplar taking on Glasgow at 3:30 p.m. Top-seeded Fairview receives a first-round bye.
The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.
