Cowboys Outscore MonDak, 64-20

The Culbertson Cowboys capped their regular season with a 64-20 road victory over MonDak on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Cowboys have the coming weekend off because Wibaux didn’t field a team this season. With other key conference games during the weekend, the final two playoff spots are still undetermined.

Culbertson Coach Brian Manning is confident that the Cowboys will earn one of those two playoff spots even if a tie-breaker process is required. The Cowboys will spend the week healing up from various injuries.

“We’re down to 14 healthy bodies,” Manning said.

Against MonDak, the Cowboys fell behind 14-6 in the first quarter but gained a 3620 half-time advantage.

“Defensively, we were rough in the first half,” Manning said of not playing well.

The Cowboys held a 50-20 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

“We started tackling much better in the second half,” Manning said.

Brooks Solem led Culbertson’s offensive attack by rushing for seven touchdowns. The junior’s touchdowns were for 49, 21, 51, 4, 20, 15 and 15 yards.

Kaden Featherston and Mauricio Mena each had receiving touchdowns.

Other highlights included Ian Snyder intercepting a pass and Solem recovering a fumble on a kickoff.

Manning was pleased how well Wyatt Martin stepped up on the defensive line and that Cord Snyder keeps improving at defensive back. Glenn Sager also had a nice game as he switched back to linebacker.

Solem finished with 294 yards rushing and 67 yards passing.
