Turns Around Sees Increased Attendance

The 18th annual Turns Around Celebration is in the books. The Poplar-based powwow took place Aug. 15-17. Attendance has been growing for the last few years and visitors were treated to uncharacteristically cool weather and a green landscape for the summertime event.
Grand entries and a variety of dance contests and specials were held Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 7 p.m. Pat Ricker was announcer and Nathan Chase Sr. and Ronald Fast Horse were co-arena directors.
Julia Young was headwoman dancer and Ronald Fast Horse was headman dancer.
Mariah Carpentier was the celebration princess, with Georgia Mena Aileen Good Bird serving as princess attendant. Junior princess was Piper St. Germaine, with junior princess attendant Deliliah Feather. Miley Crawford was senior traveling princess, with Kristina Alexander as junior traveling princess.
Specials included tiny tots specials sponsored by Deryan Young and Julia Carpentier and Treysen Feather, respectively. A men’s traditional special was hosted by Sharon Red Thunder and her family in honor of Helen Lester descendants.
