In 2022, Gov. Greg Gianforte proposed a property tax rebate for Montanans for their primary residence and signed it into law in March 2023. The rebate provides Montanans with up to $400 of property tax relief on a primary residence in both 2023 and 2024. To qualify for the property tax rebate, you must have owned a Montana residence for at least seven months in 2024, lived in that Montana residence for at least seven months in 2024, been billed property taxes on this residence and paid property taxes on this residence.
Beginning Aug. 15, taxpayers may claim their 2024 rebate online at https://revenue. mt.gov/taxes/property- tax-rebate/ or by paper form. Claims for 2024 must be filed by Oct. 1, 2025.
