Yellowjackets Sweep Games Against Richland County


The Wolf Point Yellowjackets fought off the Richland County squad by an 8-7 in the first game of a home doubleheader on Saturday, May 31.
With the baseball game deadlocked at 5-5, the Yellowjackets gained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. O’Ryan Burshia slide home after an error for one of the runs. A hit by Blake Porras then knocked in Zeke Payne. A wild pitch allowed Kye Paulson to cross the plate for a three-run lead.
Wolf Point’s Burshia pitched the distance for the victory.
Richland County accounted for two runs in the top of the fifth to close the margin to 8-7. Richland County had two runners on base, but Burshia caught a line drive for the second out of the inning. The left-handed pitcher then registered a strike-out to end the threat.
The Yellowjackets then outscored Richland County by a 15-14 margin in the second contest.
After Richland County held a 10-9 advantage at the end of the first inning, Wolf Point’s reliever Oliver Buckles did a nice job the rest of the game on the mound to earn the victory.
Wolf Point held Richland County scoreless in the top of the second inning thanks to a nice double play made by catcher Keyden Beston. A single by Kendrik Escarcega brought home Porras in the bottom of the seoond for a 10-10 deadlock.
Trailing by a 14-10 margin entering the bottom of the third inning, the Yellowjackets posted five runs to take the victory. Burshia and Beston opened the frame by taking walks and Max Rees then connected for a single to load the bases.
A balk allowed Burshia to cross the plate. Walks to Maxton Moran and Porras resulted in another run to cut the gap to 14-12.
After Rees crossed the plate, Moran came home when Escarcega was walked for a 14-14 tie. When Burshia was hit by a pitch, Porras scored the game’s winning run.
