City Council Talks Triangle Park, Police Chief Interviews
The Wolf Point City Council held their regular meeting May 19 in council chambers.
Following public comment, two letters criticizing the proposed sale of Triangle Park were read aloud, including a letter from resident Dave Parsley, Sr., which included objections to Mayor Chris Dschaak’s handling of public input. Mayor Dschaak responded, insisting on his neutrality. “It is false to say that I am for the sale,” Dschaak said. He addressed Parsley and other recent letter writers, inviting them to come to the regular meetings in person. “It is a public meeting,” he said.
Attorney Montana Wilson offered additional clarification about the status of the sale, stating the council has not authorized a sale. He said his investigation into the legal parameters of a sale is currently stalled while he waits to hear back about authorization from the National Parks Service.
Council member Lance FourStar said community members have requested that hours at the municipal pool be extended. Mayor Dschaak said the current schedule is tight due to a lack of certified staffing.
Disaster and Emergency Services coordinator Lindsay McNabb addressed the council about the hazard mitigation plan, which they approved.
Greg Lukasik with Great West Engineering provided an update on the water and sewer improvements. The council approved a new Capitol Improvement Plan and a sewer cleaning bid with Pace in the amount of $86,709.
The council voted to authorize pursuing grants for conducting a tree inventory for the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
Discussions were held about the ongoing interview process for a new Wolf Point Police Department chief. There are currently three candidates under consideration. The council voted to reach out to former hiring committee members to determine their availability.
The next regular meeting is set for June 16 at 7 p.m.
