Individuals Injured In North Dakota Crash

Eight people were involved in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N.D. Highway 23 and 338th Street Northwest (County Road 9), about 1 1/2 miles north of Makoti on Saturday, Sept. 23, about 5:49 p.m.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2023 Toyota Rav4, driven by Patricia Markwardt, 80, of Elida, N.M., was traveling west on Highway 23. A 2010 Lincoln Navigator driven by Elmer Flying Horse, 45, New Town, N.D., was traveling south on 338th St NW (County Road 9). The Lincoln failed to stop at the intersection marked with a stop sign. The Toyota struck the Lincoln. The Lincoln rolled and came to rest on its top. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle. All occupants of the Lincoln were transported to Trinity Health in Minot by local ambulances.

Passengers in the Lincoln were Norma Flying Horse, 41, New Town; Ethelyn Moccasin, 65; Ronnetta Moccasin, 36; a 10-month-old female who was in a car seat; and a 5-year-old boy. The injuries of the occupants of the Lincoln ranged from serious to minor injuries.

The occupants of the Toyota were transported by a personal vehicle to Trinity Health. Dennis Markwardt, 81, Elida, N.M., was a passenger in the Toyota. Both occupants of the Toyota sustained minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
