This week, the Montana Department of Transportation and Knife River crews will be excavating and placing cement-treated base on the surface of U.S. Highway 2 through Culbertson.

CTB is a mixture of soil, gravel and cement that creates a strong, frost-resistant base for concrete or asphalt pavement.

Crews will also be working on underground storm drainage installation starting on the east end of the project area and working west over the upcoming weeks.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flaggers. Drivers should be prepared for minor delays.

Travelers can expect a 12-foot width restriction during milling operations. Loads over 12 feet can be accommodated, but they should anticipate delays.

The rest area on the east end of town will be closed until the end of May.

The US 2 - Culbertson project continues previous and ongoing roadway improvements in Roosevelt County to enhance safety and improve pedestrian accessibility, drainage, and roadway conditions in Culbertson.

The project will reconstruct approximately 1 mile of US Highway 2 beginning west of Third Avenue West easterly through the community to connect to the recent highway reconstruction near the Culbertson Museum.

In addition to rehabilitating the road surface and weigh station, the project will install curb, gutter, storm drainage, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and new signage throughout the more urban areas near Culbertson on U.S. Highway 2.
