Prescribed Burns Planned At Fort Union

Multiple blocks of prescribed burns are planned at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.

These burns will only occur when conditions such as humidity, wind and temperature are conducive to prescribed fire operations. If conditions are met, three units totaling 96 acres are planned for prescription. Units will run parallel to ND 1804 and along the park maintenance shop road.

Prescribed burns help clear invasive vegetation and promote native prairie restoration. Burns can help reduce fuels and create a fire break that helps slow or stop a fire.

More than 20,000 National Park Service employees care for the 424 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.
