March Features Plenty Of Snow, Cold In Area

The National Weather Service in Glasgow reports that March was Glasgow’s coldest one since 2002 and it was the third snowiest in its history.

The average temperature during the month was 16.8 degrees in Glasgow. The coldest March ever was 1899 with an average temperature of 6.8 degrees.

The next four coldest were 7.7 degrees in 1897, 10.3 degrees in 1912, 10.4 degrees in 1965 and 12.1 degrees in 1904. The average temperature in March for 2002 was 13.1 degrees, which ranks seventh all time.

Glasgow experienced a snowfall of 18.3 inches during March. The only Marchs with more snow were 25 inches in 1897 and 19.7 inches in 2018. Fourth was 14.9 inches in 1987 and 14.8 inches in 1967.

Glendive had its seventh coldest March with an average temperature of 19.9 degrees. The three coldest on record are 12.9 degrees in 1897, 14.3 degrees in 1899 and 15.8 degrees in 1912.

Glendive had 13.3 inches of snow in March, which ranks 11th for the city all time.

The record is 22 inches in 1904 followed by 21 inches in both 1898 and 1894. It was the most snow in March in Glendive since 14.5 inches during 1975.
