Eastern C Tournament Starts In Wolf Point

Wolf Point will serve as a hotbed for exciting basketball action as the Eastern C divisional tournaments run from March 1-4 at Wolf Point High School.

Action starts with four girls’ games on Wednesday, March 1, as North Country meets MonDak at 3 p.m., Lustre takes on Culbertson at 4:30 p.m., Plentywood faces Froid/Lake at 6 p.m. and Circle plays Scobey at 7:30 p.m.

Undefeated district champions entering the tournament are North Country from District 3C and Plentywood from District 2C.

North Country kept rolling with victories over Nashua, 66-23, and Scobey, 58-34, during the District 3C tournament.

Plentywood posted wins over Bainville, 50-23, Froid/ Lake, 55-39, and Culbertson, 38-31, at the District 2C tournament.

The divisional championship game for the girls is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3.

The boys’ portion of the tournament begins Thursday, March 2, with Lustre facing Savage at noon, Nashua facing Froid/Lake at 1:30 p.m., Fairview playing Plentywood at 6 p.m. and Bainville battling Scobey at 7:30 p.m.

Lustre Christian and Fairview each enter the tournament with undefeated league records as district champions. The two squads met in December during a non-conference tournament in Scobey when Lustre edged the Warriors, 48-42. The game was even at 40-40 with 2:30 remaining.

Lustre downed Dodson, 62-32, and Scobey, 38-37, during the District 3C tournament.

Fairview posted victories over Culbertson, 65-44, Bainville, 67-38, and Froid/Lake, 49-47, in overtime at the District 2C tournament.

Both number two seeds, Froid/Lake and Scobey, appear to be peaking at tournament time. Froid/Lake, who placed second at last year’s state tournament, had a seven- game winning streak before the overtime loss to Fairview. Scobey’s recent losses have included the one-point game against Lustre in the District 3C title contest and in overtime at Class B power Wolf Point.

The top two teams from each tournament will advance to the Class C state tournament scheduled in Billings for March 8-11.
