Wolf Point Wrestlers Advance To State Meet
Wolf Point’s wrestlers qualified four athletes for the state meet during divisional action in Columbus.
Jayden Dominique lost out on Friday. “He has came so far this year. He is a first-year kid that is an eighth grader and he gives his all,” Wolf Point Coach Scott Vandall said. “I’m very happy with his efforts this year expecting good things to come with this young man.”
Johnathan “Jon Jon” Williams also went out on Friday. “Jon Jon got a big win in a fun match to watch and coach. He also is a first-year wrestler and a junior. He is a great young man. We are glad he came out. We hope he comes back. We are looking for some good thing out of him next year.”
Sam Boysun, a freshman, wrestled in junior high last year also went out on Friday. Boysun got a good win and has also done a great job this year,” Vandall said.
Jesse Reed, another eighth grader, finished fifth at divisional and punched his ticket to state.
“Jesse had a solid meet. He got the eighth seed and had what some would say upsets,” Vandall said. “We had a kid from Malta in the fifth and sixth place match that beat us twice on the year. Jesse just got after it and dominated the match from the get go. I’m very happy for Jesse. He wrestled his butt off and got to state.”
Kasey Reed, a freshman, finished third and also punched his ticket to state. “Kasey had a very good meet. He lost to the number one seed in the semi-finals. He had a good match, just a couple little things there,” Vandall said. “His best match was the quarterfinals when he beat a senior from Cascade. He dominated that match. After that match it was just a matter of where we were going to end up. This was by far his best meet on the season.”
Jeina Reum, another eighth grader, placed fourth. “She didn’t get the luck of the draw. We drew the number one kid in the state and defending state champ for our first match. She wrestled well we lost a close match for third and fourth to punch her ticket to state. That match could have gone either way.”
Joli Beston took second to punch her ticket to state. “We lost to the Huntley Project girl who is undefeated and a defending state champ. We just made one mistake and got caught,” Vandall said. “Joli was really up for this match, she wanted it. It hurt a little inside, but we will go after it next week.”
Next week is the big show at the Metra. “We are anxious to see what happens next week. We had a great weekend,” Vandall said. “My goal was seven to go. In reality, it was three and we are taking four.”
Vandall thanks the fans that came down to Columbus. He wishes wrestlers from Poplar, Circle and Glasgow good luck. “It should be a fun weekend,” Vandall said.
