Cowboys Lose Close Game To Circle

 

The Culbertson Cowboys came up just short in a hardfought game against Circle on Friday, Jan 27. The Wildcats posted a 44-42 league victory.

Culbertson trailed by a 3531 margin after three quarters of action and by a 38-31 score in the fourth quarter.

A short jumper by Mo Bighorn provided some momentum for the Cowboys. Peyton Perkins then hit a baseline shot to cut the margin to 38--35 with four minutes left.

After Circle’s Jace Curtiss made two free throws, Culbertson’s Colin Avance accounted for a three-point play with 2:57 remaining. Another basket by Avance produced a 40-40 deadlock with 2:33 left.

The Wildcats regained the lead on free throws by Curtiss and Beau Beery, but the Cowboys tied the game at 42-42 when Mark Kirkaldie scored with 22 seconds left.

After a time-out, Beery drove in for a basket to put the Wildcats ahead with only eight seconds left. Seth Dyk then intercepted a pass and the Cowboys were unable to get off a decent final shot.

Avance led Culbertson with 15 points. Bighorn finished with nine and Kirkaldie added eight.

Also scoring were Perkins with six and Bridger Salvevold with four points.

Top scorers for Circle were Beery with 15, Curtiss with 10 and Chance Beley with nine points.
