Red Hawks Beat Plentywood

Froid/Lake’s boys’ basketball team put together an outstanding comeback in the final quarter to edge Plentywood, 48-44, during league action in Froid on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The Red Hawks trailed 4031 after three quarters of play and by a 42-33 early in the fourth period.

After a free throw by Mason Dethman, Patton Bighorn fired in a three-pointer to pull the Red Hawks to 4237. Another three-pointer by Bighorn cut the gap to two points.

A 17-footer by Dethman tied the contest at 42-42. After Plentywood missed a pair of three-point attempts, Bighorn hit a 15-footer to put the Red Hawks into the lead. A hoop by Max Engelke off a pass from Bighorn increased the margin to 46-42.

Plentywood was able to cut the gap to 46-44 on a basket by Chance Klein.

The Wildcats missed another three-point try in the final minutes, and the Red Hawks put the game away when Dethman hit a pair of free throws.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Dethman with 15, Bighorn with 10 and Engelke with 10 points.

Also scoring were Landen Kelm with six, Nate Stentoft with four and Joey Boyd with three points.

Leading Plentywood were Easton Tommerup with 14 and Conner Howard with 10 points.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the first quarter. After a pair of free throws by Engelke closed the margin to 21-19, Plentywood accounted for the last 12 points of the first half for a 33-19 advantage.

Down by a 40-25 score, the Red Hawks ended the third quarter on a high note when a drive by Bighorn and four points by Dethman cut the gap to 40-31.
