Cowgirls Post Conference Victory Over Bainville Squad

 

The Culbertson Cowgirls used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Bainville, 53-38, in league basketball action on Friday, Jan. 13.

The visiting Cowgirls trailed 3-0 early but went ahead to stay with nine straight points on four points by Destiny Thompson, three by Makena Hauge and a basket by Megan Granbois off a pass from Perla Burciaga.

Bainville’s Hailey Berwick tallied five points in the final 2:05 of the period, but Culbertson held a 14-8 lead.

Culbertson’s Hauge accounted for seven straight points midway into the second period to gain a 21-9 advantage.

The Cowgirls held a 25-16 half-time lead, but Bainville got off to a good start in the third quarters on baskets by Tally Berwick and Elsie Wilson.

The scoring of Thompson kept Culbertson ahead, but the three-point shooting of H. Berwick and Sadie Ullmer kept the Bulldogs close.

A free throw and baseline shot by Hauge put the margin at 40-30 to end the third quarter.

A pair of baskets by Kendra Romo pulled the Bulldogs to 42-34 midway into the fourth quarter, but the scoring of Thompson and Granbois put Culbertson up 46-35 with only 2:30 remaining. A 15-footer by Burciaga and a three-point play by Thompson increased the gap to 5135.

Top scorers for Culbertson were Thompson with 23, Hauge with 14 and Granbois with nine. Also scoring were Burciaga with five and Alicyn Ator with two points.

Reaching double figures for Bainville were H. Berwick with 17 and Wilson with 11 points. Rounding out the scoring were Romo with four, Ullmer with three and T. Berwick with three points.
