The Culbertson School Board held their regular meeting Dec. 19. Trustees present included Luke Anderson, Eric Bergum, Ian Walker and chairperson Mark Colvin. Larry Crowder, Mike Olson, Dave Solem and Lora Finnicum were also present.

The following was shared during reports: National Honor Society concluded their drive with ample donations for the County Cupboard, Wolf Point Pound Puppies and toys. Opportunity Bank has offered to help with advertising next year for this event. Quotes were requested for sand and paint for the high school gym. Mike Olson received verbal approval of the e-rate grant to purchase chromebooks. Participation at the winter concert was limited due to illnesses. Snowball dance was well attended.

Trustee Bergum made a motion to hire Tessa Larsen as a guest teacher, pending background check. Walker seconded motion, which passed unanimously without comment.

Also hired without incident were David Anderson as elementary girls’ basketball head coach and Ashley Anderson as elementary girls’ basketball assistant coach; Scott Sorensen as elementary boys’ basketball head coach and Lisa Steppler as elementary boys’ basketball assistant coach; David Solem as high school cross country head coach, Brian Manning as high school football head coach and Tiffany Nielsen as high school Volleyball Head Coach for 2023-2024.

Two playground equipment bids were received from Great Western Recreation and Grondahl Recreation. Some trustees felt the bids did not present like options and were difficult to compare. Crowder recommended rejection of all bids. Anderson made motion to accept the recommendation, with Bergum seconding. The motion carried unanimously. Bids advertisements will be submitted with bid considerations at the January board meeting.

Karen Eggett was approved for addition to the bus monitor roster.

Changes to the student handbook were approved regarding energy drinks containing ethanol alcohol. Students may now receive detention for the violation.

Sierra Machart was approved for an Occupational Therapist Internship.

Trustees discussed a remote learning option for winter weather conditions. Bergum made motion to develop a remote learning plan for severe weather. The motion passed.

Key card re-instatement was approved for Dustin Menz. Minutes were approved for the Nov. 15 meeting, as were bills, payroll and claims for November.

Superintendent evaluation will be postponed until January. The next board meeting scheduled for Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
