Poplar Posts Victories

Poplar’s boys’ basketball team opened its seasons with victories over Roundup and Shepherd during the Lockwood tournament. “It was a good outing for us,” Poplar Coach Gib Medicine Cloud said. “It showed us what we need to work on right away and adjustments we need to make.”

The Indians downed Roundup by a 99-57 final.

Poplar jumped out to a 2311 lead in the first quarter and enjoyed a 55-26 advantage at the half.

Delray Lilley led the Indians with 38 points while Geordy Medicine Cloud finished with 22 points.

Kaniel Ricker came close to a triple double with 13 points, 16 assists and seven rebounds.

Also scoring for Poplar were Walker Burshia with nine, Preston Ogle with six, Adrian Mutuck with five, Kameron Reum with two, Quinn Southerland with two and Cetan Growing Thunder with two.

The Indians then downed Shepherd by a 63-37 final.

After leading only 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, Poplar increased the margin to 35-13 at the half.

Poplar led 53-26 after three quarters of play.

Reaching double figures for the Indians were Medicine Cloud with 20, Ricker with 12, Lilley with 11 and Burshia with 10.

Rounding out the scoring were Reum with six and Growing Thunder with four points.

The Indians will host Wolf Point on Friday, Dec. 16, and travel to Harlem on Saturday, Dec. 17.
