JMG Students Build Relationships With Younger Students

The Wolf Point Junior High School students involved in the Jobs for Montana Graduates program has been making younger friends during this school year.

Since August, the JMG class has been part of a buddy program with preschool and kindergarten students at Southside Elementary School. The JMG students have been walking over to Southside twice a week.

“This helps the older kids form relationships while working on their communication and compassion skills,” JMG advisor Amanda Campbell said. “Our students don’t have a lot of job-ready skills so we are trying to give them some that they may not have.”

She noted that positive relationships are forming between the junior high students and younger children.

“With kindergarten, they usually go to recess. With the preschool, we work on crafts, phonics and free time,” Campbell said.

In addition, six of the junior high girls’ basketball players are volunteering for the Lil’ Wolves’ boys’ basketball program three days a week.
