Poplar’s volleyball squad celebrated homecoming with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-15, victory over Brockton on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The Indians broke loose from a 2-2 deadlock in the first set by scoring 12 straight points for a 14-2 advantage. The powerful serving of Morgen Nordwick led the attack. Scoring kills were Braelyn Nordwick and Kessee Erickson.

Aces by B. Nordwick and a block by Erickson increased the margin to 22-3. After an ace by Brockton’s Lucille Hart cut the gap to 23-7, Poplar went on to take a 25-8 win.

In the second set, Poplar gained a 4-0 lead on serves by EmmaRae Martell and attacks by M. Nordwick. Ahead by a 10-4 margin, the Indians used the serving of B. Nordwick and net play of Erickson to gain a 16-4 advantage.

A back-row kill by B. Nordwick was good for a 19-9 margin and a pair of aces by E. Martell increased the gap to 23-11. The set ended on an ace by Rebecca Gorder.

The net play of Erickson, a 6-0 junior, highlighted play early in the third set as the Indians took an 11-4 advantage. Angelina Escarcega served three aces for a 16-5 margin.

An ace by Courtney Spotted Wolf helped Brockton battle back to 18-9. With Poplar leading by a 22-15 margin, the Indians finished the match with a kill by E. Martell and two aces by Erickson. Poplar will travel to Glasgow on Thursday, Oct. 13, and Malta on Saturday, Oct. 15.
