Cowgirls Drop Match In Savage

 

Savage nipped the Culbertson Cowgirls in an exciting five-set match held in Savage on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Savage won the conference match by a 15-25, 25-21, 25-11, 20-25, 15-7, final.

Trailing two sets to one, the Cowgirls gained a 14-12 lead in the fourth set on a kill by Perla Burciaga and an ace by Destiny Thompson.

A block by Jazzmin Fugere helped Culbertson keep the lead at 19-18. An ace by Makena Hauge and a kill by Thompson produced a 21-18 advantage.

Ahead by a 23-21 margin, Culbertson struck for the last two points including one on a kill by Thompson.

The net play of Brooke Reuter led Savage to a 4-1 lead in the fifth set. The strong net play of Hauge fought Culbertson back to 7-5.

Savage was able to pull away on the net play of Teah Conradsen and Karley McPherson.

Hauge finished with 19 kills and four blocks. Thompson and Burciaga each served four aces.

Alicyn Ator finished with 19 assists.

Thompson had 14 digs. The Cowgirls will play at Lustre on Thursday, Sept. 29, and at the annual Richey/ Lambert tournament on Saturday, Oct. 1.
