Wolves Cruise To 48-6 Victory Over Roundup

After a bit of a slow start, the Wolf Point Wolves were impressive in beating Roundup, 48-6, at home on Friday, Sept. 9.

“It’s a good win,” Wolf Point’s Coach Anthony Red Cloud said after the non-conference victory. “All the kids did their jobs.”

After a turnover by the Wolves on a punt return, Roundup scored the game’s first touchdown on a fourthdown run from one-yard out by Evan Rustad with 34 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Wolf Point’s defense kept the Panthers in check the rest of the way.

“They played really well as a unit,” Red Cloud said of Wolf Point’s defense.

Wolf Point’s next possession started at its own 46, and the Wolves quickly moved into scoring position on the quick feet of tailback Maddox Reum.

Facing a third down from the 18, the Wolves scored on a nice pass from Benson to Corey Martell. Benson ran in the two-point conversion for a 14-6 lead with 8:12 left in the half.

After the close first half, the Wolves dominated play from the very start in the third quarter. An interception by Silk quickly gave Wolf Point possession. Reum then accounted for a 56-yard touchdown run where he broke a tackle at the 50 and then cut back to go the distance. Benson passed to Brown for a 22-6 advantage.

Wolf Point’s defense, led with plays by DaShaun Jackson, Charlie Page and Lennoxx Lilley, forced the Panthers into a punt. Benson received the kick and raced 69 yards for a touchdown and a 28-6 lead.

Page intercepted a pass later in the quarter and returned the ball to the Roundup 10. On first down, Benson connected with Gaige Bushman for a 34-6 margin with 3:55 remaining in the period.

After an interception by Benson, the Wolves scored on a 30-yard dash by Benson to open the fourth quarter for a 40-6 lead.

Another interception by Benson put the Wolves back in business. Reum then broke away for a 46-yard touchdown run with 11:25 left. Bushman passed to Silk on the conversion play for a 48-6 margin.

The Wolves finished with 257 rushing yards including 139 yards from Reum, a 145-pound sophomore.

“My goal was to run the ball a little more,” Red Cloud said.

The Wolves, 1-1 for the season, will host Colstrip for homecoming at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Wolves will then start league play in Malta on Friday, Sept. 23.
