Fort Union To Host Indian Arts Festival
Join staff and volunteers at Fort Union as they celebrate affiliated tribes through traditional American Indian music, dancing and culture Aug. 6-7. This free event will showcase presentations and demonstrations on singing, dancing, traditional crafts and presentations by artists and craftspeople from tribes of the Upper Missouri. Events begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
Daily programs are subject to change. According to the schedule at press time, Saturday, Aug. 6, will include a buffalo hide talk with Billy Maxwell, Shoshone program with Laine Thom, Flint Knapping with Willie Lamere, Native film work with Justin Deegan, traditional Native American singing and dance presentation with Cowessess First Nation Cree from Saskatchewan, a moon calendar presentation with Dakota Good House and a cannon firing demonstration with park staff.
Sunday, Aug. 7, will feature a similar schedule. Ongoing presentations and demonstrations include traditional beadwork, quillwork, ledger art, children’s games, flint knapping and storytelling.
Park hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT daily. Scheduled activities run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT daily. Find more information and the full schedule of events a go.nps. gov/IndianArtsFestival.
