Weather Service Issues Warnings, Rainfall Totals

The National Weather Service in Glasgow issued flood and thunderstorm warnings from Glasgow to Bainville over the holiday weekend.

A July 4 social media post read: “Recent rainfall combined with rain chances have created a situation where the potential for localized flooding is elevated.”

Most festivities and events in the area continued as planned.

Severe thunderstorm watches issued July 5 for Prairie and Wibaux counties were canceled at press time, but NWSG officials said another round of storms was likely Tuesday and moving forward with the week.

NWSG meteorologist Julianna Glinskas told the Northern Plains Independent that area rainfall totals for Sunday through Monday, July 3-4, included .25 inches in Culbertson, .14 inches in Wolf Point and .19 inches in Glasgow. She said the precipitation has been enough to produce some optimism regarding the outlook for drought conditions in the region.

“The rain is definitely helping,” said Glinskas.
