The goal of a great community effort will soon be coming to fruition when the new playground equipment for Borge Park arrives.

Recreation director Dan Horsmon said the playground equipment is anticipated to reach Wolf Point sometime during the week of June 20.

“The Wolf Point area stepped up 100 percent,” Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said. “It’s amazing.”

Volunteers from the Wolf Point Lions Club and the city will help put the equipment up. Horsmon said the volunteer work will save about $24,000. An engineer will mark the holes to make sure for the project.

“It’s a big set,” Horsmon said. He explained the design came from a combination of ideas from the Lions Club and city officials.

The playground equipment costs about $64,500. With additional costs, such as concrete, the project’s total cost is about $70,000.

Horsmon said there are tentative plans for a grand opening and possibly a free feed.

The Wolf Point Lions Club’s members decided to start the project of raising funds for much-needed new playground equipment for the park about a year and a half ago.

Commitments included $10,000 from the city. Those funds came from concession sales at games. The Wolf Point Community Organization donated $20,000. By the end of 2021, there was $71,000 in the fund.

“It’s great to be able to purchase new equipment at zero costs in taxes and it not no affect to the general fund,” Dschaak said.
