Wolf Point’s FFA Going Strong
The Wolf Point High School’s FFA program is growing inspired by the enthusiasm of several current students.
“It’s interesting to learn the different branches of agriculture and how wide ranging it is,” Aaron Boysun. one of the chapter’s members, said.
Ben Boysun added, “It’s surprising. There’s a lot to it.”
Last week was National FFA Week. This year marked the 75th anniversary of National FFA Week. FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership.
Competitions that Wolf Point students have taken part in this school year included livestock judging in Opheim, John Deere Days in Bozeman, agriculture sales in Bainville and agriculture mechanics in Richey. Martin Toavs is the chapter’s advisor.
FFA member Jordan Davis said his favorite competition was ag mechanics.
Student Charlie Page added, “Livestock judging was pretty cool to learn about all the different types of animals.’ Honors have included Davis and A. Boysun earning individual honors at the JV level in Bozeman.
The students are looking forward to the state convention in Bozeman held near the end of March. They hope to achieve recognition as both as individuals and as a team at the event.
They encourage other students to take advantage of the learning experiences offered through FFA.
“It’s a wonderful way to get out and learn,” Davis said.
Aaron Boysun explained, “You learn about what agriculture is all about and the future of agriculture.”
The Boysuns and Davis said they will use the lessons learned to help work on their family’s farms in upcoming years. Aiden Prichard and Page said there are members for the experience. Prichard has an interest in ag mechanics.
Other chapter members include president Samantha Reed, secretary Kailey Bridges, reporter Gaige Bushman and member Jesse Fettig.
“Anyone is welcomed to try it out,” Ben Boysun said.
