Wolf Point Boys Outscore Harlem, 70-67

Kelby Bauer got red hot in the third quarter and the Wolves held on to outscore Harlem, 70-67, at home on Saturday, Jan. 8.

Five three-pointers by Bauer helped change the game from a 38-37 half-time score to a 62-49 advantage after three quarters.

“My boys have been grinding hard,” Wolf Point Coach Troy Blount said. “Kelby and Julian [Benson] had a big weekend offensively for us. But more importantly, it was a total team effort. My boys are so coachable, just a really good group of boys. We are having fun.”

Three-pointers by Jaxon Azure and Bauer put the Wolves ahead 47-37 to open the third quarter. After Harlem’s Lance Morgan scored inside, Bauer hit consecutive three-pointers for a 53-39 lead. A 15-footer by Azure put the margin at 55-39.

After Harlem cut the gap to 60-49 late in the quarter, a basket by Wolf Point’s Corey Martell ended the period.

A three-pointer by Kraven Silk put the Wolves up 7059 with 5:01 remaining, but Harlem battled back with the next eight points sparked by the play of senior guard R.J. Ramone. Two free throws by Ramone, after a steal, got the Wildcats as close as 70-67 with 11 seconds left.

The Wolves held on to improve their league record to 3-1 for the season.

Top scorers for Wolf Point were Bauer with 23, Silk with 17 and Benson with 12.

Rounding out the scoring were Azure with seven, Gaige Bushman with seven, Jack Sprague with two and Martell with two.

Leading Harlem were Ramone with 28 and Teagan Le- Valdo with 13 points.

The hot shooting of Silk led the Wolves to an early 13-6 lead. After Harlem fought back to gain a 17-16 lead on a three-pointer by Deshon Shambo, a three-pointer by Benson lifted the Wolves to a 19-17 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.

The Wolves will host Glendive on Friday, Jan. 14, and travel to Scobey on Saturday, Jan. 15.
