JOM Plans Activities For Students

The Wolf Point JOM committee discussed various ways to support students during its meeting on Monday, Jan. 3.

Committee members are excited about taking part in the career fair at Wolf Point High School from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 2. The event will feature six Native American presenters including tribal chairman Floyd Azure. JOM members are looking into having tribal foods as part as a supplement to the lunch.

Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Loverty Erickson said a vaccination clinic is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 18-19. Authorization letters were sent this week. It was discussed to have a movie night on Feb. 23. JOM will provide popcorn and water.

It was announced that Southside Elementary School will receive a drum and sticks through a grant from the National Native Children’s Trauma Center.

Sarah Chambers, curriculum director, said the reading initiative program is seeing positive results at both Southside and Northside. She shared book ideas with JOM committee members to bring selections into the school system.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, in the high school library. Committee members urge people to come and take an active role in the organization.
