Poplar Boys Split Opening Contests
Poplar’s boys’ basketball squad split its two contests at the Lockwood tournament during the weekend.
The Indians defeated St. Labre, 73-46, on Friday, Dec. 10.
“We came out rusty but settled down in the second half and played our game,” Poplar Coach Gib Medicine Cloud said.
Top scorers for Poplar were Delrae Lilley with 21, Dennis Red Eagle with 18 and Geordy Medicine Cloud with 15 points.
Also scoring were William Youngman with eight, Kaniel Ricker with seven and Preston Ogle with four.
The Indians lost against two-time defending state champion Lodge Grass, 7340, on Saturday, Dec. 11.
Poplar trailed by only a 3422 margin at the half.
“We gave it all we could,” Coach Medicine Cloud said. “It showed what we need to work on.”
Lilley led Poplar with 14 points. Also scoring were Ogle with nine, Red Eagle with nine, Medicine Cloud with five and Youngman with five.
The Indians will host Wolf Point on Friday, Dec. 17, and head to Harlem on Saturday, Dec. 18.
