Lustre Posts Victories During Wolf Point Tournament


Lustre’s boys’ basketball squad put together an impressive effort and downed Wolf Point’s JVs, 86-25, on Friday, Dec. 10.
Using tough full-court pressure, the Lions reeled off the game’s first 13 points on four points by Jasiah Hambira, a 15-footer by Elijah Lenihan, a three-pointer by Cayden Klatt and four points by Kolden Hoversland including a dunk at the 5:52 mark.
The Wolves got on the scoreboard when Forrest Demont put in a basket with 4:47 left in the opening quarter.
The shooting of Hoversland and Lenihan increased Lustre’s lead to 22-5.
Ahead 22-7, the Lions struck for the next 11 points on two three-pointers by Alex Chen, two free throws by Hoversland and a three-pointer by Clay Reddig.
Two free throws by Wolf Point’s Cade Stafne and a three-pointer at the buzzer by Cale Jensen produced a 35-12 score at the end of the period.
With the score at 40-17, the Lions ran off the next 14 points including four points each by Hoversland and Alex Chen.
Lustre led 54-18 at the half and 67-18 after three quarters of play.
Reaching double figures were Hoversland with 18, Reddig with 18, Hambira with 11 and Lenihan with 11. Also scoring were Alex Chen with nine, Klatt with eight, Gabe Alves with five and Bryan Chen with two.
Lustre Christian won both basketball contests against Poplar’s JVs during action in Wolf Point Saturday, Dec. 11.
Lustre’s Alexa Reddig poured in a career high of 36 points to lead Lustre’s girls to a 63-37 victory.
The Lions jumped out to a 22-8 advantage in the first quarter. Reddig scored 14 and Aubri Holzrichter added seven points in the quarter.
The scoring of Reddig and Holzrichter put Lustre up 3513 late in the second quarter. Poplar fought back to 35-19 at intermission.
After a drive by Grace Brown and a hoop by Holzrichter increased Lustre’s lead to 41-23, Poplar’s Kyra Stormy connected on a three-pointer. Lustre led 4632 at the end of the quarter.
Ahead by a 50-34 margin, the Lions accounted for 11 straight points for a 61-34 advantage. Reddig scored six of the points while Holzrichter hit a three-pointer and Brown added a layup.
Scoring for the Lions were Reddig with 36, Holzrichter with 18, Brown with seven points and Anna Teichroew with two points.
In the boys’ contest, Lustre posted a 79-30 victory.
Poplar put up a good fight early as a coast-to-coast drive by Malcolm Yellow Hammer cut the margin to 6-5 with 3:15 left in the opening quarter.
The Lions ran off the next 11 points on four points by Braden Ewing, a drive by Elijah Lenihan, an inside shot by Kolden Hoversland and a three-pointer by Clay Reddig.
A baseline shot at the buzzer by Jasiah Hambira put Lustre up 19-5 at the end of the quarter.
Ahead by a 21-9 margin, Lustre accounted for 15 straight points with Lenihan scoring five of those points.
The Indians battled back to 36-12 on a free throw by Allen Russell and a steal and layup by Yellow Hammer, but the Lions struck for the final six points of the half for a 42-12 advantage. Hoversland scored four of the points.
Lustre enjoyed a 62-24 advantage after three quarters of play.
Top scorers for the Lions were Hoversland with 19, Hambira with 15, Ewing with 13 and Cayden Klatt with 12.
Also scoring were Lenihan with nine, Alex Chen with eight and Reddig with three.
Yellow Hammer scored 13 points for Poplar while Russell added seven points.
Lustre’s girls’ basketball team broke away in the second half to defeat Wolf Point’s JVs on Friday, Dec. 10.
Wolf Point led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but the shooting of Aubri Holzrichter put the Lions up 15-11 at the half.
Lustre opened the third quarter with six straight points on four points by Alexa Reddig and a drive by Grace Brown.
After Wolf Point’s Jueliz Bauer hit a pair of free throws, the scoring of Brown increased the margin to 23-13.
Ahead by a 23-15 margin, the Lions tallied the last nine points of the quarter including five by Reddig for a 32-15 lead. The scoring of Piper Ruffing, Mailey Wells and Azalei Ackerman pulled the Wolves as close as 37-24, but Lustre pulled away on the free-throw shooting of Reddig and Hannah Brown.
Top scorers for Lustre were Reddig with 18, G. Brown with 13 and Holzrichter with eight.
