Lady Wolves Improve To 3-0 With Wins

 

The Wolf Point girls’ basketball team improved to 3-0 with victories over Shepherd and St. Labre during the Lockwood Tournament on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday Dec. 11.

The Lady Wolves downed Shepherd by a 52-45 final.

Wolf Point trailed 20-17 at the half and 34-29 after three quarters of play.

Wolf Point accounted for 23 points in the fourth quarter for the comeback victory. Sierra Hamilton scored nine points in the fourth period while Jaylee Azure added seven points.

“We started to control the ball and didn’t hurry as much,” Wolf Point Coach Frank Benson said of the comeback. “We played team basketball.”

Hamilton led the Wolves with 14 points. Azure scored 12 points and J’Elle Garfield finished with 11 points.

Also scoring were Hamyanie Campbell with seven, Josie Kolstad with six and Katelyn MacDonald with two.

Wolf Point then defeated St. Labre by a 76-13 margin on Saturday.

The Wolves struck for the contest’s first 12 points on four points each by Garfield, Hamilton and Campbell. Ahead 18-3, Wolf Point accounted for the final 12 points of the quarter for a 30-3 advantage. Hamilton scored four of those points.

Wolf Point ran off the last 10 points of the second quarter for a 48-7 half-time lead. Kaylandra St. Marks scored five of those points.

The Wolves went on to lead 64-11 after three quarters of play.

Reaching double figures for Wolf Point were Hamilton with 18, Campbell with 14 and Garfield with 10 points.

Also scoring were K. Mac-Donald with eight, St. Marks with seven, Haidyn Raining Bird with seven, Adeia Erickson with five, Kolstad with three, Mahala Moran with two and Azure with two.

Wolf Point will travel to Poplar on Friday, Dec. 17, and host Malta on Saturday, Dec. 18.
